1803 Squadron (Hucknall) Air Training Corps held their open day in September and the RAF was good enough to send a RAF Chinook HC3 from RAF Odiham (the aircrew volunteered). Being a bit of a fan of the Chinook and the HC3 in particular I went over to grab a few photos.
Chinook HC3
The Chinook HC3 was originally purchased by the RAF to be used for Special Forces although it never saw service in that role and that is why it is a different spec from the other Chinook in the RAF’s fleet. The ‘wide body’ shape of the HC3 is very distinctive and houses enlarged fuel tanks. To date the HC3s have not been deployed to Afghanistan and is utilised in the UK mostly for training.
