A visit to RAF Coningsby to catch up with the Typhoons and hopefully catch the 41(R) Sqn Tornado GR4 special tail painted for their 95th anniversary. I got lucky when the second flight of the day was the 41(R) Sqn special tail departing as RAFAIR 7008 to Letecký Den (Airshow). It returned 18 minutes later with a problem and the aircrew swapped over to another 41(R) Squadron Tornado GR4 (ZA611) and departed succesfully.
I also caught Typhoon ZJ947 marked up in 6 Sqn markings and wearing EI as its tail code. ZJ947 did one sortie as Typhoon 06.
ZJ915 has been recently upgraded to Block 5 standard under the R2 upgrade program. The aiframe has been in storage since early 2006 and is now back flying after its upgrade. It flew the one sortie without tanks as Rampage 12
ZJ921 flew the one sortie as Rockstar 2.
ZJ804 seen here doing a single engine reheat overshoot on its single sortie as Typhoon 06.
Even with some Typhoons away RAF Coningsby is still a busy airbase. 29(R) Squadron were the busiest squadron as usual and a new batch of student pilots are starting their training.
